What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile) by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, remember your preferences, or provide information to the website owner.
In addition to cookies, some services use browser local storage — a similar mechanism that stores data within your browser rather than as a file on your device. Where we refer to "cookies" in this notice, we mean both cookies and local storage unless otherwise stated.
How we use cookies
Under PECR, we must obtain your consent before placing non-essential cookies on your device. We use a consent banner to give you that choice. The categories of cookies we use are described below.
We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking cookies, or sell data about your browsing to third parties.
Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are essential for the website to function and cannot be switched off. Under PECR, strictly necessary cookies do not require consent. We use:
- Theme preference. A local storage entry (
perpetually-theme) that remembers whether you have selected the light or dark theme between visits. This is set immediately on page load to prevent a flash of the wrong theme. Duration: persistent until cleared. - Cookie consent decision. A local storage entry that records whether you have accepted or declined optional cookies, so we do not ask again on every visit. Duration: persistent until cleared.
Analytics — PostHog
Category: Analytics (consent required)
If you click Accept analytics in the consent banner, we load PostHog to understand how visitors use the site. PostHog is not initialised until consent is given — if you decline or ignore the banner, no PostHog scripts load and no analytics cookies or local storage entries are set.
Once enabled, PostHog sets a first-party cookie and writes to local storage to maintain a random visitor identifier and session state. It collects:
- Pages visited on perpetually.app and navigation path.
- Automatic interaction events: clicks, scroll depth, form interactions, and similar user actions.
- Device and environment data: browser, operating system, screen resolution, language, and a city-level location derived from your IP address. IP addresses are processed by PostHog but are not stored on your visitor profile.
- On contact form submission: your email address and message metadata (name character count, message word count, email domain). The message body itself is not sent to PostHog.
PostHog stores data in the United States. See our Privacy Policy for the safeguards we rely on for this international transfer.
Retention: 12 months from collection, then automatically deleted by PostHog.
Withdrawing consent: Clear your browser's local storage for this site (see Managing your preferences below). The consent banner will reappear on your next visit.
Live chat — Intercom
Category: Functional / Support (consent required)
We use Intercom to provide live chat and support functionality. The Intercom widget is loaded when you consent to it via the cookie banner.
When the Intercom widget is active, it may collect:
- Technical visit data. Your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, and the pages you visit on our site. This is collected even if you do not send a message.
- Conversation data. If you initiate a chat, the content of your messages, and any name or email address you choose to provide, are stored by Intercom.
- Visitor identifier. Intercom sets a cookie and/or local storage entry to assign a unique identifier to your browser, so your conversation history can be associated across sessions.
Intercom data is processed by Intercom R&D Unlimited Company (Ireland) and Intercom, Inc. (United States). Intercom's privacy policy is at intercom.com/legal/privacy.
Retention: Conversation data is retained by Intercom for up to three years, after which it is deleted in accordance with our workspace settings. Technical visit data is retained for a shorter rolling period.
Withdrawing consent: Clear your browser's local storage and cookies for this site (see Managing your preferences below). The consent banner will reappear on your next visit.

Managing your preferences
You can change or withdraw your consent to optional cookies at any time:
- Open your browser's developer tools (typically F12 or right-click → Inspect).
- Go to Application (Chrome/Edge) or Storage (Firefox) and select Local Storage → perpetually.app.
- Delete the consent key. On your next visit, the cookie banner will reappear and you can make a fresh choice.
Clearing local storage will also remove the theme preference, but the site will continue to work normally (defaulting to dark mode).
To stop Intercom from recognising you across sessions, you should also clear cookies for the intercom.io domain in your browser settings.
Managing cookies through your browser
You can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings. Note that blocking all cookies may affect parts of the site (such as the theme toggle remembering your choice). The links below take you to the relevant support pages:
You can also use browser extensions such as uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger to block third-party tracking at a network level.
